Gentle Giant
Acquiring the Taste (1971)
NO! It`s a peach silly! open the jacket and see for yourself. Turn the lights out
and sling on the headphones `cause this one`s gonna get medieval on your arse!
More experimental and expanding upon their first, this one afforded the band no
compromise whatsoever, hence the title. Of note*this was listed as one of Merzbow`s favorite!???
Check out `The Black Cat`, and don`t be startled if the face of Edgar Allan Poe appears illuminated in Virgin Mary-mode on your bedroom ceiling.

Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel
The Best Years Of Our Lives (1975)
Boy, did this one deliver. Aside from their other posthumous releases which lay stacked away
in some dismissed `unqualified`one dollar record bins, Steve Harley added his name separate to
the bill, which let his fans know who was really in charge. Aside from Mr. Harley`s ranting which frothed with ego~maniacal bliss, a few hits were garnered through this release which catapulted the band`s reputation worldwide, while Alan Parsons safely tuned and harnessed this restless beast to a nicely honed shiny finish. Boy, he could sure polish them shoes!

The Frogs (1988)
I thanked Mr. Jim O`Rourke myself in person for releasing this gem. Originally self released in 1988, this is the ultimate of holy grails, a true testament to all those still awaiting the anti-christ. The most bizarre, unrelenting, perverse, yet colorful pop record of all time. Forget Ween, put this on for christ`s sake!
Liner notes by Steve Albini! a must!

CHURCH MUSIC

I grew up in a non musical family, but my earliest account of hearing music was in church. YES, I did go to CHURCH.
At the time I was unaware of the possibility of CHOICE,
but even if I had been aware, it would not have mattered, since most Christian parents don't like being asked questions ..because questioning them =questioning god=shut the fuck up or else you'll burn in hell for ETERNITY.

At the time, Koreans as an ethnic group in Pennsylvania were not understood in the same sense as they are at this moment in time. There was a very small community at the time, and since originally me and my mom (who was single at the time) were from Michigan up until I was 7, it wasn't as easy for us to blend in anywhere at that time. But  that's what happened if you were Korean. You ended up finding or belonging to a church, and slowly had to find a way to integrate into American society that way. There were no other alternatives.
If there were, you were lucky.  Most Koreans found a foothold in Pennsylvania through the church community to try and find a way to make a living while living in close proximity with each other. Every Sunday, as I recall I would be whisked away into a car and then escorted into a very library-like building adorned with pastoral last supper type paintings for my viewing pleasure. FUN.
The stern looking koreans had rented a church from the rather `leave it to beaver`looking crowd, and
there was quite a variety of people as I remember it and it wasn't easy to get along with all the other kids, since I was very shy. Half black, half white, american born,  and adding to the strange mix, a great influx of 'I  SPEAK ONLY KOREAN' kids who bombarded the church in later years. This predated what is known as `K-POP` (or poop).
I remember one of those kids from the latter group mentioned, pinning me to the ground and shouting obscenities at me (in Korean) probably because well, I don`t know why.
PENIS ENVY? who knows...
So anyway, my mother sang in the church choir.
While they were rehearsing , I was put in a room full of other invalids my age and was taught  that Jesus was 'Good' and that the Devil was 'Bad '
This went on for years.
There was a youth pastor to provide us incompetents with the teachings of the 'WORD OF  GOD' (THE BIBLE).

His name was TIM. He told us that ROCK and ROLL was a creation of the DEVIL and that dating someone from the opposite sex was UNHOLY. Remember, we were still in elementary school. ( could you imagine his thoughts on same sex relationships? wowie zowie. )PINK FLOYD enters room: (HEY TEACHER! LEAVE THEM KIDS ALONE!)PINK FLOYD exits stage. with children applauding   But luckily, before I met TIM  there was(don`t laugh) SHANE KIM. Shane was a high school student who taught us bible stories during our lovely little sunday morning services, and his family was pretty well off since his father was a dentist and was well integrated into american  society at the time (his father was adopted by white folks).

Anyway, Shane loved music. His room was plastered with big-hair band rock posters. I remember he had a waterbed too(this was 1990). He once made me a MIX tape.LO AND BEHOLD, ON IT READ:
SIDE A: SGT. PEPPER
SIDE B: FLEETWOOD MAC 'RUMOURS'
From that day on , trouble would follow me for the rest of my days. OH BOY.
At around the same time, my mother had a friend who was married to a white guy, and they also had a son just around my age. His name was STEVEN SMITH. I went to Steven's house for sleepover parties, and one night his father played on what appeared to be a LASER DISC, a musical performance of  'KILLER QUEEN' by you guessed it , 'QUEEN'.
I became so entranced by this music, gradually losing interest in sports, video games and other mind numbing 'kid activities'. I was around 8 years old. By that time, I was certifiably socially inept as I began taping songs off the radio requesting to  hear unchained melody by the righteous brothers by calling up every local radio station in town every hour or so after school(I had a phone book).
But  luckily  through all that nonsense growing up in church, and listening to alot of Queen, that gave me enough impetus to start writing songs on my own.

Who am I?

Punky.jpg

Faced with the small trivialities that one encounters everyday,
I have decided to keep some of those thoughts which lay dormant,
contained deep within where the fog still wanders aimlessly
into the dark...um...er..forgive me for that interjectory gobbledygook.
NO REALLY. Now, where was I...

I will try on this `blog` to focus on something beyond the realm of `I like this because, and these are pictures of my friends,
and here`s a table with food on it blah blah blah...

Each and everyone us have those little idiosyncrasies that
make us special and peculiar, and that's good and we should always learn more about ourselves,
rather than striving to be this and that. LET`S ALL RECORD IT! HARDWARE. AUDIO. VISUALS! JUST DONT TRY SO HARD. Support your self interest.

Sure, life is hopeless and all that jazz, but if everything was so zestfully clean would that be any better?
It all exists and is apart of the `WILL', as suggested by A. SCHOPENHAUER.
Be it JESUS or BUDDHA or OPRAH, if it makes you feel good whatever. KEEP IT TO YOURSELF.
We live in a world full of choices and crooks, so as long as you're AWARE maybe it'll be OK.

OK. So Here we go. BEAM ME UP SCOTTIE.
